Images 4 Education used Ning very creatively for their online course. They linked to a wiki for course content. This was so successful that the community continued after the course.

I've seen several issues with student/teacher links on Facebook. Facebook is social, so students post pictures/jokes that I don't want to see and vice versa. I don't attend student parties for the same reason. Facebook was not meant to be a professi…

About Me:
I'm one of those early adopters who feels a little like Cassandra, predicting the future and not being believed.

I currently work with medical school faculty who are making the transition to more student centered learning. As a side initiative, I'm moving them towards using technology for teaching.

Active Learning in Web 2.0

I am interested in creating environments where students can actively engage with the course content and each other. I have a toolbox for doing this in the classroom, see http://blogs.usask.ca/medical_education/archive/2007/04/using_active_le.html for some of these. I'm uncomfortable about the overemphasis on text in many online environments.

I have a wiki about tools for teaching and would love suggestions for tools I might add http://wiki.usask.ca/db/index.php/Technology_Tools

Hi Deirdre, I would love to get your feedback on Recess if you can spare a few minutes. The link is www.meetatrecess.com. I'm talking to schools every day about integrating social networking into curriculum to engage students.

thanks, Deirdre - and listen, speaking of Carter, have you read the INCREDIBLE book by Arthur Phillips, The Egyptologist? it's really great, one of the best books I've read in the past several years. Carter haunts the book... :-)

here's a review:

hi Deirdre! I saw your post on Triumph of Science over Sexism last week - I thought it was GREAT. I teach folklore and mythology so I saved a link to it to share with my students when school starts in the fall (Egypt is one of the first units we do in class)

Hi Deirdre,

Yes, I made the Moodle presentation video myself. We used it at our recent Moodle conference as a short introduction to Moodle.

I used Apple's Keynote and iMovie (which comes with Mac OS X) to make it - it isn't that difficult if you have the right tools :)

Someone just send me a link to Ted Ideas worth spreading. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader. http://www.ted.com/index.php/
