[Re]Thinking the Transition to Online Teaching and Learning

With Jeff Nugent and Bud Deihl, we have published a new white paper on online teaching> http://bit.ly/11DBMx. It is our view that teaching online is much more than posting content online, and so are providing a framework by which faculty can think about the "practice" of teaching online. Please add to the conversation - we would be interested in your thoughts.

I must tell you -- this paper -- in addition to wishing I'd written it, I am using it as the foundation of a chart I'm working on with some of our more experienced online instructors in order to demonstrate the variety of pedagogies that can be used to achieve the seven goals. This is a perfect Web 2.0 update to Chickering and Ehrmann's 1996 work -- I just love it. I keep passing it on to everyone I know. Thank you so much for posting it!

And I found it here, so my thanks to Eduardo too!

Thanks!

Take a look at where we have now taken our thoughts:

Fantastic. I am looking to revise a full course for online instructors to take (not required, but for salary advancement credit) -- the original course never took off, and it now needs revision in light of new tools and focus over the last several years. Your site is an excellent example of where we are now, and how to help faculty get there. It may well provide a good foundation for my rewrite. I am very grateful -- I'm afraid years of working in isolation trying to help faculty achieve pedagogical goals has gotten me kind of down -- this is re-energizing!

Now I remember why your blog is on my Must Read folder in Google Reader!

@Lisa, Britt asked me to comment the draft and now I am honored to have my name included in the acknowledgments for my comments to the White Paper Online VCU

I am proud to have both of you participating in my College 2.0 forum
