College 2.0

Higher Education, Online Learning and Web 2.0

Our school doesn't have a streaming server. We often create our own video for instructional purposes and I've been using free streaming storage space. I was using Google video to upload it, make it private and then embed the video in our course management system. I can do it with YouTube but I have to have each user create an account and then they have to log in to YouTube before logging into blackboard. A little convoluted for our faculty and students. I've been looking into setting up a subscription for a TeacherTube MySite. I want the video to be private but want to embed it in BB? Any suggestions?

Use Vimeo. You can store your videos (up to 500MB upload for free per week), can mark the videos not only private, but also password protected, and then embed into Blackboard. They retain video quality and don't destroy it like YouTube does. We love using it here at the college where I work. Faculty love that they can add a password to the video in the event they really don't want anyone to find it, share it outside of class, etc.
