Hi every one I am Javed. I am professor of Civil Engineering at Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio.

I am interested in Online teaching and learning and the use of Information communication technology(ICT) to enhance and augment the instructional process.

I am developing an online Master's program in Structural Engineering and currently working on developing online courses to support this program. I recently completed one online course in the area of Engineering Communications.

Information Technology Tools for Engineers

and currently I am porting an existing online course Engineering Computing to Ning at web address to add social aspects of learning to the course.

There are several other Engineering courses that are at various stages of development.

The course "Information Technology Tools for Engineers" is in the area of Information Communication Technology in which Engineering graduates learn to efficiently use the Internet for gathering, sharing and creating digital information. The course also covers topics related to social book marking, social media, and social networking along with the Internet tools for real time communication.

I started teaching the course with a class Yahoo group but moved it to the Ning in the middle of the semester because Yahoo group was becoming unreliable. So far Ning has worked well. There are few things I miss from Yahoo group such as a simple data base application where tabular information can be organized and I have compensated for it by using the MS Excel. Also, a quick poll/assessment set up. I have found few alternatives to compensate for that too. It is just that people have to leave Ning to use these two tools. It would have been nice if all the tools were available under the same interface.

I am practicing what I call "Open Professor" model. That is that the class is open to any interested visitors/guests. They can participate in the course discussion use all the course material. Only difference between them and the students who are enrolled for credit is that they decide their own level of participation and they will not receive any performance appraisal from me unless they request for it but they will not receive any course grade.

You are all welcomed to visit the course at

Hi,

I am new to this forum and consider it as very interesting. At a first glance at the forum I noticed that it is very well structured. I really appreciate that. I am totally interested in web 2.0. I am currently considering attending an online college because I think this is a great opportunity in order to reconcile work and education.

Here is the quick and easy cut and past. First the long form.

Life is an Adventure. I'm a native Ohioan, from a family that ran a surface coal mine. The sandbox I played in was a bit bigger.

My formal education includes: a BS in Mining Engineering from PSU, an MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from OSU, and an MBA-Finance from UOR/Simon School. Last year I was updating my Information Technology skills at RIT.

My jobs have been varied: worm salesman, lumberjack, ditch digger, mechanic, weigh master, gob picker, welder, bulldozer operator, oiler, blaster, security official, farmer, lobbyist, onion shredder, line cook, cashier, dishwasher, delivery driver, bartender, fork lift operator, lab analyst, consultant, industrial engineer, facilitator, corporate trainer, programmer, network designer / installer, systems manager, micro-economist, foreign currency trader, financial analyst, finance director and currently - adjunct instructor of Economics.

My wife and I share a love of partner dancing (ballroom, Latin, swing, shottish, disco, etc.), reading, gardening perennials, cooking, computers, a minority interest in a puppy, and each other. I am also blessed with a wonderful son and daughter.

In warmer weather, I journey to northern Ontario. I am passionate about fishing for northern pike. In the fall, I hunt whitetail deer locally.

Music is also an important part of my life. A few of my favorites are: Glen Miller, Chopin, Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Who, Rolling Stones, Yes, Queen, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, and Acoustic Alchemy.

Formal or informal, I am a life-long learner and enjoy sharing what I can with others.

The Adventure continues....

The short form: I have a broad background in business and financial analysis, economics and and information technology. II believe community colleges play an increasingly critical role in the economic vitality of our community and nation, as well as the quality of life for those in our area. Currently I am teaching economics and personal finance at Monroe Community College. One of my goals is to lead in the use of digital technologies in instruction to improve the effectiveness of the education communities I am connected with.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Michelle Everson and I'm currently a Lecturer in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Minnesota. For the past four years, I have been teaching online statistics courses. I love teaching online, and I'm particularly interested in ways I can foster active learning in the online environment. I use a lot of discussion in my courses, but I'm never quite sure if I'm doing all I can to motivate students to be active participants in these discussions.

I look forward to talking with you and sharing ideas!

Michelle

I am a professor of cultural anthropology at Westminster College in Missouri. As the only anthropologist at Westminster, I have to teach a broad array of courses in my discipline. I have recently begun to be interested in using web 2.0 tools for creating collaboration among the students and for connecting them with the wider (outside central Missouri) world. In addition, I am considering teaching a class on internet culture.

Howdy:
I'm Walt. I work at Gogebic Community College directing the best post-secondary library in Michigan's Central Time Zone. Luckily, I have a staff member to help.
My main interest: canoeing
My philosophy emerges as anarcho-metatheism gilded with existential pragmatism.
And, I love public bureaucracy as a source for rollicking good times.
